RoadSideAmerica > Mark Newlon  > Roadside Fun > Roadside Fun -- International
One of the great pleasures in our lives has been the visiting and photographing of roadside attractions and pop-culture landmarks. Here are some highlights. Some of these pictures are poor scans of old pictures, so great photography is not the point here. We've had lots of fun visiting these places over the years, and we hope that you'll enjoy seeing them as well. Since there's no convenient way to organize these pictures, I've organized them alphabetically by city.

Andrew, Alberta

Andrew, Alberta, is home to the World's Largest Mallard Duck. The marker reads: "Whitford Lake, a waterfowl sanctuary situated two kilometers southeast of Andrew, is a major breeding and nesting area for ducks and geese and is situated on one of the major waterfowl flyways. The Mallard Duck, the most colorful of duck species frequenting our area, has been selected as a symbol for our village. This replica, erected April 29, 1992, is a tourism project of the Andrew Tourism Committee, the Andrew Lions Club, Tourism Alberta and the Village of Andrew."
Blind River, ON -- The Northern Ontario Loggers Memorial is a must-see for anyone passing through Blind River. Those giant arrows are supposed to be trees, apparently. The marker reads: "This memorial was designed by Laura Brown-Breetvelt to honour the spirit and industry of the workers and companies involved in logging in northern Ontario and the Blind River area. 'The men, the river, and the trees are all part of our history,' says Laura. These two 'river drivers' symbolize this part of our heritage exceptionally well."
Echo Bay, ON -- Echo Bay, Ontario honored favorite son Robert-Ralph Carmichael, designer of the Loonie dollar coin, with this suitable monument: The World's Largest Loonie.
Glendon, Alberta

The World's Largest Pyrogy (note the unique spelling for this deep-fried, stuffed, pasta concoction) can be found in Pyrogy Park, on Pyrogy Drive, in the pyrogy-mad town of Glendon, Alberta. Not to be missed!
Midland, ON -- Midland is home to the World's Largest Trumpeter Swan. This behemoth celebrates the importance and the success of the Trumpeter Swan Re-Introduction Program begun in 1988, 200 years after the species disappeared from Huronia. Fun for the entire family!
North Bay, ON -- The Dionne Quintuplets were born in this house in North Bay, Ontario. The house was actually moved to this more central location from a location a few miles out of town.
Sparwood, British Columbia

Sparwood is the final resting place of the World's Largest Truck. Unlike other roadside attraction of its ilk, this behemoth was actually once a working, breathing, honest-to-God real truck!
Sudbury, ON -- Originally built in 1964 as the centerpiece of the numistically-themed Big Nickel park, Sudbury's famous Big Nickel was moved in 2001 to the grounds of Dynamic Earth, a geology and mining tourist attraction. Sadly, you hev to pay for parking. Gladly, they will refund the parking fee if you eschew the Dynamic Earth facility and only gaze upon the Big Nickel, returning to the parking attendant within 30 minutes.
