Alliance, Nebraska

Jeanne and I pulled into Alliance, Nebraska with literally only a few more minutes of daylight. Fortunately, we were able to grab this picture of Carhenge. But for the fact that it's made of cars, Carhenge is identical to Stonehenge, including matters of size and scale.
Alton, Illinois

Robert Wadlow, the Gentle Giant, is the tallest human being ever measured and the favorite son of Alton, Illinois. The citizens of that fair city were kind enough to erect this memorial of him.
Audabon, Iowa

The citizens of Audabon, Iowa, are justifiably proud of their amply-proportioned mascot, Albert the Bull, the world's largest. Albert's visage is ubiquitous throughout town, but this statue in the city park is guaranteed to take your breath away.
Austin, Minnesota

The Spam Museum is a friendly place.
Battle Creek, Michigan

Battle Creek is home to one of the great manifestations of corporate America: Kellogg's Ceral City. Fun for the entire family!
Belfountaine, OH -- Claims that its McKinley St. is the World's Shortest.
Bellfontaine, OH -- Although the claim is in some dispute, Bellfontaine claims the World's Oldest Concrete Street. The marker reads: "America's first concrete streets were those which surrounded this court house. Concrete was first used in 1891 to provide an 8-foot strip along Main Street where horses were hitched. Two years later Court Avenue was paved with concrete made from native marl supplied by the Buckeye Cement Company 8 miles to the northeast. This marker was erected in 1968 on the 75th anniversary of the paving of Court Avenue."
Bemidji, MN

The plaque reads: "The statues of Paul Bunyon and Babe were both built in 1937 in connection with a January winter carnival. The 16-foot Paul weighs two-and-one-half tons and stands above five tons of concrete footings. Babe was originally built to be a mobile, covered with canvas, and for two years was trucked in parades throughout Minnesota before returing in 1939 to be cemented down beside his friend, Paul. The two figures remain permanent symbols of Bemidji and its most colorful era of logging and lumberjacks."
Blue Earth, Minnesota

This attraction is one of my favorites. The sixty-foot statue of the Jolly Green Giant dominates the skyline of Blue Earth, Minnesota.
