Ashburn, Georgia

This super-sized peanut off of I-75 in Georgia has been a soothing sight for weary travelers since its first appearance in 1971. This is a most fitting memorial to Nora Lawrence Smith, member of the Georgia Journalism Hall of Fame.
Here we are at the World's Largest Bourbon Barrel, at the Tom Moore Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Belgrade, Minnesota

This ample avian edifice in Centennial Park is the pride of Belgrade. The World's Largest Crow, eighteen feet tall, on a 25-foot tall pedestal, perched on a 31-foot tall branch, is the talk of the town.
Bentonville, Arkansas

Of course, by the time Jeanne and I pulled into the Birth of Wal-Mart, they were closed for the day. Still, Sam Walton's little shop is an inspiration to the capitalist in all of us.
Chester, WV

Chester is home to the World's Largest Teapot. It looks so spiffy thanks to Hampton Hotels' Save-a-Landmark program, which contributed $15,000 toward its restoration in 2007.
Clermont, Florida

When the Citrus Tower opened here in July of 1956, it was Florida's highest observation point and one of the state's greatest tourist attractions. Today, it's neither, but they're struggling along anayway.
Corbin, Kentucky

Corbin gave birth to one of fast food's most vernerable icons: Colonel Harlan Sanders and Kentucky Fried Chicken. It all started here, with the Sanders Cafe and the Sanders Motel. When the interstate came through and bypassed his business, Harlan Sanders went to work, franchising his top-secret recipe of "eleven herbs and spices" and parlaying it into a fortune.
Dillon, South Carolina

South of the Border, off of Interstate 95 (just south of the North Carolina border) in South Carolina, has to be seen to be believed. Here, you can eat, sleep, play, and shop for tacky souvenirs to your heart's content, all while under the watchful eye of Pedro.
Eureka Springs, Arkansas

"Christ of the Ozarks" in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is one of the world's largest free-standing Jesuses. It took us three hours to drive up the mountain, but the guidebook said that the statue was illuminated at night! So we pressed on, wondering why all the motels were closed. When we finally arrived, we were stunned to discover that "Christ of the Ozarks" was closed for the season. We did get a picture of this roadblock, though -- strategically placed to prevent schlups like us from getting a glimpse of the famous Christ.
