One of the great pleasures in our lives has been the visiting and photographing of roadside attractions and pop-culture landmarks. Here are some highlights. Some of these pictures are poor scans of old pictures, so great photography is not the point here. We've had lots of fun visiting these places over the years, and we hope that you'll enjoy seeing them as well. Since there's no convenient way to organize these pictures, I've organized them alphabetically by city.

Jeanne and I pulled into Alliance, Nebraska with literally only a few more minutes of daylight. Fortunately, we were able to grab this picture of Carhenge. But for the fact that it's made of cars, Carhenge is identical to Stonehenge, including matters of size and scale.

This super-sized peanut off of I-75 in Georgia has been a soothing sight for weary travelers since its first appearance in 1971. This is a most fitting memorial to Nora Lawrence Smith, member of the Georgia Journalism Hall of Fame.

The citizens of Audabon, Iowa, are justifiably proud of their amply-proportioned mascot, Albert the Bull, the world's largest. Albert's visage is ubiquitous throughout town, but this statue in the city park is guaranteed to take your breath away.

Three miles west of Blanchard, North Dakota, stands the world's tallest manmade structure, the KVLY TV mast. We visited this on the anniversary of a significant day in its history -- August 8, 2006. This was the 15th anniversary of the collapse of the Warszawa Radio Mast in Konstantynow, Poland, formerly the world's tallest man-made structure. When the Warszawa mast failed it catapulted the North Dakota mast into first place. My friend Ari has pointed out that Konstantynow has since boasted the world's LONGEST tower.
